This is a thirty minute guided meditation that you can use as a buffer between work and home. We want to reached a state of relaxed-alertness in our body, breath and mind. This guided meditation talks through the steps, and the intention is to relax without falling asleep. By the end of this session, the body, breath and mind will reach a state of relaxed-alertness, and you are now ready to greet the family with renewed energy.
You will need a place to lie down or sit comfortably without being disturbed. The intention is not to go to sleep, but to go beyond sleep, so follow the instructions carefully.
This technique is based on an ancient tantra technique that’s described in the Vigyana Bhairava Tantra, and ancient tantra text. In Paul Reps’ 1957 book, Zen Flesh Zen Bones, this sutra is translated by Lakshmanjoo into English as “At the point of sleep when sleep has not yet come and external wakefulness vanished, at this point being is revealed”.
The purpose of our Living Meditations project is to create meditations that everyday professionals and householders can weave into their daily schedule. These ten-to-thirty minute meditations can be dropped into the schedule like a spoonful of sugar into a jug filled to the brim with water, adding to the flavor without spilling over an already filled space.
